Back in 1997 whilst visiting India we noticed the vast array of handicrafts on offer, always having a passion for this type of thing we decided to look at importing some of the wonderful furniture that we had seen. After several more visits over the next 12 months visiting suppliers we decided to start working with a small factory in Rajasthan as their philosophy certainly ran along the same lines as ours. This factory although somewhat larger we still use today and they produce all of our Indian ranges for us. We have a great working relationship with them and work closely together developing both new products, their infrastructure and staff. We regularly visit to work on new projects and ensure that everything is running as smoothly as it possibly can. Should you have any questions or comments please do contact us, we would be so glad to hear from you. Below are some images taken at the factory to give you an idea where our Indian furniture is made.
What are our ethics?
We believe in doing our best and pride ourselves on being a family run business offering high quality, well designed furniture at great value prices. We have a strong ethical and environmental awareness and are always striving to improve our performance in these areas. We like to think we’re honest, friendly and easy to deal with and our business is firmly based on the principles of Fair Trade. All timber used in the production of our furniture ranges is from Indian Government managed plantations and is fully traceable back to its source. As yet the Indian Government has not adopted the FSC standard except in a small area which cultivates rubber wood. Our furniture is manufactured from timber that is sustainably produced and look forward to the Indian Government fully adopting the FSC standard amongst all of its plantations.
TNS Furniture has been built on fair trade principles, we negotiate a fair and proper price with our supplier in India and pay them promptly when the shipment leaves the factory. We have been dealing with the same supplier for years and have helped them develop as a company therefore benefiting the whole community. Because of the rise in trade as we have grown we have traded more therefore the supplier has employed more staff and their subcontractors have also benefited from the growth in trade because the supplier uses more components so their communities have benefited, it goes on and on. Regular visits to the India means that we can monitor what is happening and ensure that our principles are being upheld. Staff are well paid and all that we meet enjoy their work as it brings them financial stability which means they can provide for their families. All this is possible because of you so a big thank you from all of us.
